February in Review

So February happened. Always seems to go really quickly. All the things I thought would happen did happen. Apart from having the depressions which are just annoying. Trying really hard to be Ok with not being Ok. I’m Ok. Just don’t ask otherwise there might be tears.

So I went back to uni and orchestra so life is kind of back to normal. This could be my last semester of uni, so if you have a job for me, part-time work from home or within 20km of my house let me know.

Solution to 180

The morning after I released the email. I turned on Kayo and went yippee 180. Of course, it’s darts. I have really got into darts this summer. Watching a sport that down to the skill of person without the other player impacting them directly is rare. Of course there is the mental side of the game which is very very engaging.

Books

The Popeye Murders – Sandra Winter-Dewhirst

First in a mystery series based in Adelaide featuring Rebecca Keith. It was great to read about places I could imagine. I’m looking forward to reading the next one in the series, A Royal Murder.

Manhattan Mayhem – Various

This is an ebook I found in the library. It tells crime short stories from New York. It was a bit hit and miss as often happens with multiple authors. Also my kobo had a hissy fit with the book before I had finished it. I made it about 3/4 of the way so I’m counting that as a finish.

Shakespeare’s Sonnets Retold: Classic Poems with a Modern Twist – James Anthony and William Shakespeare

I enjoy listening to certain audiobooks and podcasts while I try to go to sleep. I found this audiobook while searching for Stephen Fry, he has a great go to sleep voice. He narates the modern poems and Paapa Essiedu the original Shakespeare. I enjoyed both the modern and the originals.

The Complete Miss Marple Short Stories – Agatha Christie

This was my Agatha Christie challenge book for February. Well in contained Thirteen Problems which was the challenge read. I’ve owned this book for years, Dad brought it from the Folio Society, and have never got around to reading it. It is a wonderful collection.

The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood

After watching the TV show, I thought I should read the book. The story is very much the same. Some of the characters changed a bit but they still worked really well. It was a fun world to go to. I borrowed it as an audiobook through the library libby app.

Concerts

Disco Wonderland: A night at Studio 54- Sydney Symphony Orchestra

What a different way to start of my Sydney Symphony Orchestra season. It was exactly what it said on the label: a Disco Wonderland. There were 4 singers, Paulini, Timomatic, Lucy Maunder and Nick Afoa who sang disco songs with the Orchestra. The backing singers Dyagula and Alwyn De Los Santos and host Barry Conrad also sang beautifully. The Orchestra and conductor, Vanessa Scammell seemed to have an amazing time.

We danced and sang the night away in the Horden Pavillion. I’ve put together a playlist of the songs on Spotify.

Post Modern Jukebox

So after seeing the Sydney Symphony at the Hordern Pavilion, I went and saw Post Modern Jukebox in the concert hall at the Opera House. It was an awesome evening. I love Postmodern Jukebox. Their reimagining of rock and pop songs in retro form. I’ve put together a selection of songs from the concerts in a YouTube playlist to share the love.

On the box

Normal cricket watching with a sprinkling of darts. But I did watch some drama series as well. I binged

What I made

I’ve been wanting to make a pinstripe suit for ages and cut out a waistcoat and trousers a couple of months ago. I decided to make them to wear them to Postmodern Jukebox. Nothing like a deadline to get things done. Very happy with how they turned out. I paired them with a retro-pattern shirt that I made a couple of years ago. The pants fitted which is always a great thing. The pants pattern was Burda 6250 and waistcoat was Burda 3977.

Outlook for March

March is looking exciting with Concerts, car racing and a book adventure away. Also a couple of exams boo hiss. See you soon.
